The words tumbled out of my mouth unbidden, before I had a chance to really think about them, which is how I knew they were true.
As my husband drove us home, I sat in the passenger seat and reflected on the intense hockey game we had just witnessed.
“I think this game…” I said slowly, as though the reality of what I was saying was alarming, “…and this team, meant more to me than any Super Bowl ever has.”
The car was silent, absorbing my thoughts, until my father-in-law spoke up from the backseat.
“Plus,” he said, “You get to know the players and how they interact with their teammates. It’s different than the NFL. Their egos don’t factor in as much.”
This conversation took place about two weeks ago, following the NCAA regional hockey final in Providence.
I went to the game with my husband and father-in-law; the three of us have season tickets to Boston College and are boosters for the hockey team.
